Who is Elvis Presley?

Who is Elvis Presley? And why is he the main attraction on the Elvis Slots from IGT?

What? Are you really asking that question? Have you been in a frozen state of animation for the past 70 years or something?

OK- for those of you have just thawed out, here is a run down.

His full name is Elvis Aaron Presley and he was born January 8, 1935. He died August 16, 1977. And, he was a singer.

The King, as he was know was one of the most popular singers of the 20th century, and has influenced countless singers since.

The King of Rock and Roll first opened his eyes in Tupelo, Mississippi, Presley and moved to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family at the age of 13. He began singing in 1954, bringing the sounds of African American music to a white audience.

With bassist Bill Black, Elvis was one of the early singers rockabilly, an fast, mix of country and rhythm and blues.
Presley’s first RCA single, “Heartbreak Hotel”, which hit the airwaves in January 1956, was a number one (the first of many). He became the figure head of rock and roll with a number of TV appearances and chart-topping singles. His highly sexual style (particularly for the fifties) made him a mega star, but also earned him a few enemies. And in ’56 he made his move onto the Silver Screen with Love Me Tender.

Presley went into the army in the late 50s, and relaunched his recording career in 1960 with some of his most successful stuff. Most of the 1960s was spent honing his acting career, however, until 1968, when he returned to performing live in a famous comeback TV special that led to an long camp out in Las Vegas and a long line of big money generating tours.

In 1973 Presley set up the first ever concert broadcast around the world via satellite, Aloha from Hawaii, which was seen by around 1.5 billion people. He was the first truly global rock star.
However, drug abuse (mostly prescribed) hit his health hard, and he died suddenly in 1977 at the age of 42.

Elvis Presley is one of, if not the most important figures of 20th-century popular culture and is the best-selling solo artist ever. He won 3 Grammys and was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36.
